Connect.

Online classes led by top journalism educators will connect students in the U.S. and overseas with the skills to succeed — writing, editing, video and photojournalism and digital media storytelling. Breakout rooms, virtual whiteboards and group chats will help students build 21st century savvy. Virtual press conferences with guest speakers will put students in touch with today’s top newsrooms. Students can attend sessions in real time or watch on demand.

Collaborate.

Daily reporting time, one-to-one story coaching by top college journalists and guest editors, and team editorial meetings will shape single students into staff writers with a shared purpose — to create multimedia story packages reported, photographed and illustrated from where they are. Cloud workspace and group apps will help students partner across time zones. Our 1:8 instructor-student ratio online and off promotes real learning.

Week 2 begins with applying for a staff job. Our Global Student Square website, 650West interactive magazine and NBTB News offer publishing options in print, digital and broadcast. We’ll also do two special projects for a major U.S. publication and a climate science organization. As always, students will learn by doing. And every student will leave with published work and a great answer to the question, “So … what did you do last summer?”
