Please click here to apply for our upcoming NBTB NOW fall election special session, Oct. 12-Dec. 18. Applications are rolling, meaning that we accept qualified students until spaces are filled. Payment is due by Oct. 2, 2020.

Virtually all of our applications are submitted online and our application allows you to save your work from session to session before you submit. If you have problems, please try switching your browser (for example, from Safari to Chrome). You can also email us directly at newsroombythebay@gmail.com for assistance.

Who should apply

Apply if you are in the 9th, 10th, 11th or 12th grades as of September 2020. We also accept a limited number of rising college freshmen/women who are seeking to pursue journalism in college but have not had the opportunity to practice it in high school. Previous journalism experience is not required. All students in our fall 2020 session are automatically enrolled in our digital badges program, with the opportunity to create a digital portfolio including a college application essay.

Recommendation and clips

Due to the disruption to schools caused by the coronavirus crisis and the unusually high demands on teachers at this time, we are waiving recommendations for NBTB NOW. However, the student application will ask for the name of a journalism adviser or teacher in case we have questions. Please be sure to provide this.

Clips of your work are not required unless we ask for them.

What happens next

We respond to applications very quickly, usually within a week after we receive your recommendation. However, your space is not reserved until you pay. As we want to provide the best possible online learning and publishing experience for our students, NBTB NOW enrollment is limited to 30 students.

The payment deadline for accepted students is Oct. 2, 2020.
