Please click here to apply for our upcoming summer session at Stanford. Note: Due to coronavirus concerns, our Summer 2020 session will be online only.
Virtually all of our applications are submitted online and our application allows you to save your work from session to session before you submit. If you have problems, please try switching your browser (for example, from Safari to Chrome). You can also email us directly at email@example.com for assistance.
Who should apply
Apply if you will be entering the 9th, 10th, 11th or 12th grades in September 2020 (please contact us if you/your student will be entering the 9th grade as we accept younger students only on a case-by-case basis). We also accept a limited number of rising college freshmen/women who are seeking to pursue journalism in college but have not had the opportunity to practice it in high school. Previous journalism experience is not required — you don’t have to be part of a journalism program at your school, though we can help you launch or improve one.
Recommendation and clips
Due to the disruption to schools caused by the coronavirus crisis and the unusually high demands on teachers at this time, we are waiving recommendations for NBTB Online. However, the student application will ask for the name of a journalism adviser or teacher in case we have questions. Please be sure to provide this.
Clips of your work are not required unless we ask for them.
What happens next
We respond to applications very quickly, usually within a week after we receive your recommendation. However, your space is not reserved until you pay. As we want to provide the best possible online learning and publishing experience for our students, Summer 2020 space will be limited.
The payment deadline for accepted students is June 1.
