Why apply? Ask our students!

Why apply to NBTB? The best answer we can give you is to quote our students. Though we’re just now heading into our second year, students who attended Summer 2011 have been writing back to us to say how meaningful their experience was.

Several students gave us permission to quote from their letters. Here’s one from Telmo DeMorais, a senior at St. Benedict’s Preparatory School in Newark, N.J.:

For one of his stories, DeMorais got a free ticket to a Stanford Jazz Festival performance by acclaimed guitarist and songwriter Milton Nascimento. DeMorais, whose family is Brazilian, was able to interview Nascimento in his native Portuguese.

          I’d like to thank (NBTB) for an amazing week. We’ll bring many lessons back to St.   Benedict’s, and our newspaper and its website will be completely different as (a) result of coming to Newsroom by the Bay.

          Personally I can say that here I’ve found many of (the) answers I’ve been looking for …. Our website barely had any views and I never knew why …. Coming to NBTB and meeting people (who) gave us tools to attract kids and (who were) super-energetic and would always challenge my way of thinking about how journalism works was amazing …

          Meeting all these people who helped us so much will be at least for me something I will remember for many years.
